![]() At 56, long days on the trail and sustained climbs in the TR really takes it's toll and saps your energy. Having said all that, I'm going to be putting my TR up for sale as I've ordered a new Full Carbon bike that will get me down in the 29/30 lb range. I don't think you would be making a bad decision either way, but the TR is more well rounded bike for everything. All Mountain, and you are doing a lot of lift service/bike park days, the AM would be a better option if you are more concerned with going downhill vs uphill. I think it's plenty capable on Enduro style trails, but if that is your main focus vs. Unfortunately, it won't be fast and all of your friends with lighter weight rigs will be waiting for you at the top of the hill. The 78.6 STA took me a little time to get used to but once you get comfortable with it you will appreciate how it helps put you in a great pedaling position to spin up the hills. It has crushed every downhill I have thrown at it but I ride MN trails and not CO/PNW trails. I have a medium 2021 TR Race with the Lyric up front and the Ultimate Coil out back. If you try to go a full size down you'll have a super cramped pedaling position because modern long reach bikes also have a corresponding steep seat tube. Thanks for the help.įWIW sizing down only works if you're in between sizes. The alternative would be the TR in a large frame, I just don't want the 140mm frame to limit me in the future. For context, I am 6ft but could still grow some. I have thought of sizing down on the AM and getting a medium rather than a large so I can control the bike a bit better but still hit bigger feautures, I still want to be comfortable though. I have heard the TR is decent on uphill, but can also handle DH situations. I want to be able to control the bike, especially in the air. I just don't want something like the AM to slow me down on uphill and technical sections of trail. So far I have hit a couple of pro lines with 20ft features on my current bike with 140mm recon upfront, so I'll definitely be going big. ![]() But, I am also starting Enduro/DH racing and love sketchy downhill. I have one year left of Highschool XC racing and will continue to ride mellower trails after school. Hey guys, I am about to upgrade my bike from a heavy trek fuel ex 5 that is too small for me to either the Commencal Meta TR 29 or Meta AM 29.
